A/Prof Vignesh Narasimhan

A/Prof Vignesh Narasimhan is a specialist Colorectal and General Surgeon who is committed to delivering personalised, evidence-based care with compassion and clarity.

A/Prof Narasimhan completed his medical degree at the University of Otago, New Zealand, graduating with Distinction in Surgery. He undertook his general surgical training with Alfred Health and was awarded his PhD in 2020 through the University of Melbourne and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He has completed two years of advanced subspecialty training in colorectal surgery through the highly competitive CSSANZ program, followed by a further year as an Advanced Colorectal Oncology Fellow at the world-renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

A/Prof Narasimhan is widely published and remains actively involved in clinical and translational research. He is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor with Monash University. He is known for his thoughtful, patient-centred approach and for combining the latest surgical advances with genuine care, kindness and empathy.

His main interests include:

  • Open access Gastroscopy and colonoscopy

  • Haemorrhoids, fissures, rectal prolapse, perianal fistulas

  • Colon and rectal cancer- robotic/laparoscopic where possible

  • Hernias - robotic/laparoscopic where possible

  • Pilonidal disease- including minimally invasive procedures

  • Inflammatory bowel disease, Diverticular disease, faecal incontinence

Dr Geraldine Ooi

Dr Geri Ooi is a specialist Oesophageal, Gastric and General Surgeon. She finished her General Surgical training at Alfred Health and Austin Health in 2019. She was subsequently admitted into further subspecialty training with the competitive Australia Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (AANZGOSA) post-fellowship training program and completed fellowships at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Monash Health. To further her experience in gastric and oesophageal cancer surgery and management, Dr Ooi undertook a final fellowship year in Complex Surgical Oncology at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Dr Ooi completed her PhD in obesity and metabolic disease in 2019. She remains active in clinical and translational research, as well as surgical education. Her current research interests include optimising surgical outcomes in cancer care, gastric cancer intratumoural heterogeneity, improving outcomes in sarcopaenia and obesity.

She is trained in minimally invasive and robotic techniques. Her clinical interests include:

  • oesophageal and gastric cancer

  • premalignant oesophageal and gastric conditions, including gastric intestinal

  • metaplasia, gastric polyps and Barrett’s oesophagus

  • hiatal hernias

  • gastrooesophageal reflux disease

  • dysphagia

  • abdominal wall hernias (inguinal/groin, umbilical, incisional, ventral)

  • gallstones and gallbladder disorders

  • skin lesions

  • small bowel pathology

  • gastroscopy

Dr Ooi provides flexibility in patient assessment, with virtual and face-to-face appointments.
